Sarah and Joseph celebrated their nuptials with a dreamy rooftop ceremony and reception full of whimsical florals at The Bridge Building.

These Nashville natives officially met on the first day of their junior year of high school and, with the help of some mutual friends, they made it official over the holidays a few months later. Their first date was December 2, 2014, and they’ve been together ever since!

When it came time to pop the question, Joseph had a big surprise planned. During a trip to Maui, Hawaii, to visit Sarah’s family, he set up a “family” photoshoot and got down on one knee on December 21, 2021. To no one’s surprise, Sarah said “yes” and the wedding planning began!

It was important to Sarah and Joseph to have a fun wedding day celebrating with their friends and family. “We fell in love with The Bridge Building as soon as we saw it. It's actually the only venue we toured!” Sarah shared with us. “We are from Nashville and it's where we fell in love, but most of our guests were from out of town, so we knew we wanted our wedding to feel like a big Nashville party!”

When her wedding day arrived, Sarah was dressed in an A-line gown with a deep V neckline and beaded details, classic white heels, and an elegant updo with a jeweled side comb. Her best gals were in silky matching dresses in blush pink and held bright pastel bouquets.

Leading up to Joseph’s most memorable moment, which was their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs., this pair first locked eyes as Sarah walked down the aisle. They said their vows on the rooftop in a minimalist yet dreamy ceremony with bright pastel floral arrangements and a downtown view. Sarah and Joseph also held a unity ceremony where they boxed a bottle of wine along with letters from their parents and loved ones to be opened on their future anniversaries.

Afterwards, guests made their way to the riverfront to snack on passed appetizers of bacon wrapped dates, fried mac and cheese, pepper jelly pimento cheese bruschetta, and tequila infused watermelon cubes while Infinity staff finished setting the Cumberland space for the reception.

The room looked bright and dreamy as it was set with classic white linens, colorful pastel florals hung individually from the industrial beams, and warm Edison bulb lighting. On the tables sat printed custom blue and white dinner menus, homemade lavender shortbread cookies topped with edible flowers, large whimsical centerpieces of roses and wisteria, and interactive table numbers so guests could leave sweet messages for the newlyweds.

Once guests found their seats, a plated dinner service began followed by a traditional first dance to "Forever Like That" by Ben Rector, toasts from loved ones, and the cutting of the cake. The couple also included an anniversary dance to honor all the married couples in attendance!

As the night came to an end, guests lined up under the bridge with the University of Alabama shakers in honor of the couple's alma mater while Sarah and Joseph shared a final secret dance on the rooftop.

CURRENTLY CRUSHING

OUR FAVORITE WEDDING CEREMONY ALTAR IDEAS

The ceremony, no matter how short, is the most important part of the day. From floral-filled arches to artfully draped chuppahs, your ceremony backdrop will set the tone for the rest of the day.

So this month, we're crushing hard on custom altars and all the ways our couples have made their ceremony their own. Scroll on for Pinterest-worthy inspiration from our real weddings!

1. Circular

We love a good circular installation. Echoes of Eden Florals took things up a notch for Caitlin + Robinson's wedding at The Bridge Building by adding a floral ring suspended over the altar.

2. Whimsical & Wild

We're all for symmetry, but this whimsical installation from Forget Me Not Designs for Alyssa + Jayson's wedding at The Bell Tower has us seriously reconsidering.

3. Geometric & Modern

Effortlessly cool, geometric shapes have made their way from table decor to front and center modern statement pieces. One of our personal favorites? LMA Designs' "Archie." See how Megan + Bravein and Fallyn + Aaron made this focal piece their own.

4. A Twist on Tradition

A symbol of the home a couple will build together, the chuppah is a perfect opportunity to personalize the altar. This whimsical custom-built chuppah by PS Designs stole the show at Sarah + Daniel's sweet spring wedding at OZ Arts Nashville.

5. Floor to Ceiling

Make a dramatic impact with a backdrop that reaches the ceiling, like Lizzy + Clayton's bright romantic altar at The Bell Tower.  J. Kent Freeman Floral Design teamed up with Nashville Lighting & Production to create this delicate focal piece.

Caitlin, from North Carolina, and Robinson, from Tennessee, met through a mutual friend in their current home of D.C. On their one year anniversary, Robinson decided to make it official.

While exploring in Iceland, the couple went off on a morning walk when Robinson got down on one knee. Caitlin told us there was a hidden photographer capturing every moment. Swoon!

Since Nashville was a common destination for them, they knew it was the perfect spot to tie the knot. "We weren’t sure where we wanted our venue to be," Caitlin said, "but after touring The Bridge Building, our hearts were set on the gorgeous rooftop setting and the skyline views of the city!"

For this couple, flowers and photography were of high importance to them on their wedding day. But most importantly, they wanted their guests to have a great time! They envisioned a classic wedding with light and bright shades of white, blush and neutrals.

The day began with an intimate first look. "Seeing each other for the first time before the ceremony was so special and something we’ll always remember!" Caitlin told us. "We were both so nervous until then but that made everything so much better."

On the rooftop, a dreamy circular arch and suspended floral ring from Echoes of Eden Florals set the tone for Caitlin and Robinson's romantic summer wedding.

Following the ceremony, guests headed downstairs for the reception. The evening began with delectable southern hors d’oeuvres including hot chicken sliders and shrimp and grits.

At the end of the day, Caitlin and Robinson were sent off to their getaway car through a tunnel of bright sparklers lighting up the Pedestrian Bridge.
